Subject: Re: Meeting regarding registration for Summer courses at UW
To: Office of the Registrar

Hello Christine Fish,

Thank you for your email message below.

I do not agree that some kind of face-to-face meeting is needed,
or warranted, at this time.

I applied for the UW Summer 2012 Session when I did, because
there was still one (1) space available in the class on
Human Rights Law which I wanted to take.

The following day, I was told there was a "hold" on my application
because, as alleged by personnel in your office, there was an
"open police action" [sic] involving me.

I went immediately to the UW Campus Police Department, and
there I enjoyed a very polite and professional meeting with
Lieutenant Douglas B. Schulz.

I feel obligated to commend Lt. Schulz here for his obvious respect
and patience, faced as he was with my continuing exasperation
with the University of Washington in general.

After doing a warrant check downtown, and after checking
their own internal records, Lt. Schulz confirmed to me that
there was no "open police action" involving me,
no outstanding arrest warrant(s) or criminal record(s), and
no history of any campus police contact(s) with me whatsoever.

None!  Zero!!

From the facts as summarized above, I have now concluded that
the UW Registrar put a "hold" on my application solely on the basis
of unfounded hearsay, instead of confirming that allegation --
by contacting the UW Campus Police
-- as I did.

I believe this is called "due diligence" -- it is in my office, anyway.

Now, because of this unnecessary and unwarranted delay,
the class I wanted to take is full:  15/15.

You can check it yourself:  please do!

I don't think it is too much to ask that your staff
make it a required step to confirm such allegations first,
BEFORE putting any "holds" on applications for
UW Summer Sessions, or on any other applications
for that matter.

Accordingly, I respectfully decline your offer to meet as proposed below.

(For your information, I have recently corresponded with Judge
Thomas Buergenthal at The Hague concerning a controversial provision
in the U.S. Senate's ratification of a major Human Rights Treaty;
so, I am not an ignorant neophyte when it comes to this subject matter.

I believe I have a lot of professional experience -- now 22 YEARS --
which some UW faculty, students and staff may find very interesting
and informative.  The Communists on the UW Faculty will probably
disagree with me, but that's what comes with a fair and honest
commitment to substantial academic diversity.)

Thank you for your consideration.

Mr. Mitchell,

Hello. Virjean Edwards, University of Washington Registrar, asked that I contact you to set up a meeting with you, her, and Robert Rhodes, who you spoke with previously about registering this summer for a class.

Would you be available Thursday (June 14) at 11:30am or in the afternoon of that day at 3pm? If not, let me know when you would be available, and I will schedule that meeting.

Thank you,

Christine Fish
