David G. Sills, Presiding Justice

Appointed the Presiding Justice, Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, Division Three, in 1990, by Governor George Deukmejian.

Appointed to the Superior Court, in 1985, by Governor George Deukmejian and served until appointment to the Court of Appeal.

B.S. from Bradley University at Peoria, Illinois, and LL.B. from the University of Illinois, College of Law, at Champaign, Illinois, 1961. National Moot Court finalist, editor of law school newspaper Caveat and member of Phi Delta Phi. Scholastic honors: Omicron Delta Kappa; Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Kappa Delta, Phi Sigma Alpha, and a McRoberts Law Scholarship recipient.

Active duty, United States Marine Corps, 1960 and 1962-1965, infantry and armor, attained the rank of Captain. Served as platoon and company commander and battalion staff officer.

Private law practice from 1965-1985 in Orange County, California.

Member of the Republican State Central Committee 1966-1968 and Chairman of the Republican Associates of Orange County 1968-1969.

Elected to the Irvine City Council for three terms serving from 1976-1985 and as Mayor for four years during that period.

Member of the Executive Committee of the Southern California Association of Governments 1984-1985. Member of the Orange County Sanitary District Board of Directors 1984-1985.

Chairman of the Board, Irvine Health Foundation, 1985 to present.

Member, Orange County Bar Association; American Legion and November 10th Association.

Panelist: Rutter Group: "Law of Bad Faith" and "Civil Procedure Before Trial"; California Judges Association Prop. 51 Settlement Problems; Continuing Education of the Bar: Trial Practice; CJER Contested Probate Trials. Faculty member of the Orange County Bar Association Trial Practice course from 1987-1990. Instructor at University of California, Irvine, 1981, teaching selected legal problems for business.
