Paul Mitchell's Eudora Mailbox Structure


All messages from user names beginning with "a" are stored
in separate mail files for each user in C:\EUDORA\A.FOL.

This scheme is NOT case-sensitive, although Eudora Pro will
retain the case of the mailbox name (via a correspondence
table known as DESCMAP.PCE).

Thus, if Amy and Art both send email to Paul,
then all email from Amy gets routed into:

  C:\EUDORA\A.FOL\AMY.MBX    and pointers stored in:
  C:\EUDORA\A.FOL\AMY.TOC    (Table Of Contents)

and all email from Art gets routed into:

  C:\EUDORA\A.FOL\ART.MBX    and pointers stored in:
  C:\EUDORA\A.FOL\ART.TOC    (Table Of Contents)


If there is not yet a separate file for mail from Andy,
and the standard in-box is filling up and needs "thinning",
then mail from Andy goes into C:\EUDORA\ARCHIVE.FOL\MISC.MBX
until a separate mail file is created for email from Andy,
as in the cases of Amy and Art.

All outbound email sent to other users by Paul is grouped by
year and month, and then routed into a separate mailbox for
each month of each year.  Thus, all email sent to other users
by Paul between June 1 and June 30, 1997, gets routed into:

    C:\EUDORA\ARCHIVE.FOL\OUTBOUND.FOL\970601.MBX

(Date is in YYMMDD format, and could just as easily be
in YYYYMMDD format, to prevent any Y2K problems.)

Other specialized folders can be created within ARCHIVE.FOL
very easily, within this structure.

Here is the minimal structure which we have implemented to date,
showing 12 months' worth of outbound archives:
