Subject: EXTREME HURRICANE WARNING: eastern Pacific/west coast USA

This would be a good time for all California
inhabitants, particularly those along the
shoreline, to take immediate precautions:

contact your local Red Cross and/or Fire Department
to volunteer your assistance, in the event of
major catastrophe; share pager numbers, emergency
radio stations, and the like

check around your dwelling for electrical
connections which should be disabled (unplug
non-essential appliances)

buy 3 days' supply of fresh water, flashlight,
transistor radio, supply of batteries, first-aid
kit, candles, matches, Coleman lanterns, sleeping
bags, pillows, change of clothes, good tennis
shoes, rain coat with hood

buy wrap-around sunglasses with slight tint, and
wear at all time if winds exceed 50 mph, 24/hours
day or night, to prevent eye damages from flying
debris

fill gas tanks in primary car or truck (only 1),
and buy at least a dozen highway flares; inspect
winches for proper operation, cable readiness

begin making arrangements to evacuate as needed,
by contacting friends far inland

assemble valuable papers and other items which
cannot be replaced

have travel cages ready for pet animals;
3-days' supply of food for all pet animals

Be of the mind that you are going on a 3-day
camping trip, and think of everything which
you would bring on such a trip, but be sure
to include also emergency supplies, in anticipation
of possible injuries among those nearest to you.

Be sure to make immediate contact with Red Cross
and local authorities, to offer your assistance
and to learn everything you can to help yourself,
and to help others.

It is obviously much better to be over prepared
for a fizzle, than to be under prepared for a
disaster.

We are standing by to help, in every way we can.

Over and out.
