Thank you very much for your kindness here.
You have no idea what terrible psychological
consequences resulted for him. Some of these
things are very personal, and private, but
suffice it to say that they lasted a very
long time -- 50+ years to be exact. One last
thing: he wasn't "ordered" to pick up his buddy,
and carry that severely wounded man for 3 miles,
even though blood was gushing from his own neck.
I think that is the essence of the story, if I may.
