The latter is a square with ten linear miles on each side. The former is a square with 3.162277 linear miles on each side. 3.162277 x 3.162277 = 10.000. The District of Columbia was intended to be ten miles square (a square with ten miles on each side), but the area south of the Potomac was retroceded back to Virginia, when Congress lost interest in the low-lying swamps there. Arlington Cemetery is now in that area. /s/ Paul Mitchell <snip> > Are you aware the federal government has only legislating power in its 10 >square miles, Washington D.C.? It also has legislating power over the territory or other property belonging to the United States, pursuant to 4:3:2 (e.g. Guam, Virgin Islands, etc.) See "The Federal Zone" for details. /s/ Paul Mitchell >Have you read the latest mail from the IRS >concerning the 1040 forms being unavailable? >Using preprinted old forms that are not legal? > <snip> ==================================================================== [Text is usually formatted in Courier 11 non-proportional spacing @] [65-characters per line; .DOCs by MS-WORD for MS-DOS, Version 5.0B.] Paul Andrew Mitchell, B.A., M.S., email address: pmitch@primenet.com Web site for the Supreme Law Firm is URL: http://www.supremelaw.com Ship to: c/o 2509 N.
