Subject: SLS: Honking Howitzers

Long Beach. No Ma Shi.

The august Council of the City of Long Beach
today issued a new traffic regulation for the
newly mechanized infantry which is expected
to pour into this lazy seaside resort in
the coming months. In light of the high probability
that motorized howitzers could, very likely, get
caught in one of the ever-present traffic jams
now occurring on southern California highways and
by-ways at all times of the day or night, the august
Council of Long Beach with Short Pier has ordered the
immediate installation, FOB Hong King, of
back-up lights, multiple speed reverse gear boxes,
and horns mounted rearwards, to give trailing
motorists plenty of advance Notice (if no Hearing)
when the oversized cannons must back-up full speed,
due to waffling at the Pentagon and other recognized
centers of command and control (with or without
unflattering UN flags flying UNderhead -- or is that
insidehead?). Back on point (thank you), the august
Council expects to have the newly conceived regulation
transliterated into ancient Mandarin, well in advance
of the arrival of a fleet of Chinese twin-wing crop
dusters recently tank-topped with defoliants now being
synthesized at the Federal Prison Center in Boron,
California. It seems the inmates there are having
a grand ol' time of it, teaching prison guards how
to sharpen pencils and print in ancient Mandarin.
Next on the curriculum at FPC/Boron will be imminent
mastery of "Go Now Hai", a favorite game of Chinese
prisoners for centuries.
