Subject: L&J: SLS: Does U.S. Constitution bind States?

"It must always be borne in mind that the Constitution,
laws, and treaties of the United States are as much a
part of the law of every State as its own local laws
and Constitution. This is a fundamental principle
in our system of complex national policy."

     Hauenstein v. Lynham, 100 U.S. 483, 489-490 (1880)

This decision by the U.S. Supreme Court was issued
some 15 years after the end of the Civil War, and
12 years after the adoption of the so-called 14th
amendment [sic]. I don't see any references here
to martial rule, martial law, or secret bankruptcies.
