You might have obtained a credit card without YOU PERSONALLY giving them your SSN, but they in fact HAVE OBTAINED your SSN, and it is a part of your file with them. All they had to do was a credit check on you using your name and address. And if you have EVER participated in any form of credit, EVER, your SSN is available to them in your credit file.

Try using an alias, and a different address, and apply for one. You'll never receive it, because they will be unable to verify that you are who you say you are, since there will be no files on you with an SSN.

Just my opinion.
