Paul Andrew Mitchell is diagnosed with incurable
liver malfunction; he is given 48 hours to live.

June 23, 1948:
Paul Andrew Mitchell, now two days old, has spontaneous
and complete recovery from "yellow jaundice" disease.

June 25, 1948:
President Truman signs H.R. 3214,
Public Law 773, recorded in Statutes at Large as
"62 Stat. 869 - 1009".

Paul Mitchell comments:

Thus, a massive revision of Title 28, U.S.C.,
is enacted into positive law, after 5 years of
work by both houses of Congress, and some 37 years
after the last comprehensive revision. Both Houses
express confusion as to whether Tax Court [sic]
is judicial or administrative.

July 15, 1948:
President Truman signs a Presidential Proclamation,
calling Congress back to extraordinary session.

July 26, 1948:
House convenes,
in extraordinary session,
