The Parable of the Amateur

"If you bind the blade of your chop saw,
it will surely break," warned the carpenter
to the amateur, twice in the same minute.

But then, the amateur forced the blade
into his firewood, slowing it to a crawl,
whereupon the motor's torque broke
the drive belt.

It was a rare drive belt, obsolete in fact,
now impossible to replace.

Perhaps he never heard the carpenter's
warning, or ignored it, even if he did.

Jobs go unfinished when tools get broken,
and never get repaired.
